A general view of Tyre

In its Phoenician heyday during the Iron Age (1000-330 BC), the centre of Tyre was located on an off-shore island with harbours to the north and south. From here traders and colonists spread across the Mediterranean founding colonies a far afield as present-day Morocco, Spain, France and most famously Carthage in Tunisia. In this view a portion of Classical Period Tyre is in the foreground as the viewer looks towards the mainland.
