Classical Period Arch at Tyre

Not content to just occupy the former Phoenician island of Tyre, building during the Classical Period spread onto the mainland portions of the city. Here a necropolis (cemetery), colonnaded streets and monumental arches still survive to paint a vivid picture of Tyre during the Roman and Byzantine Periods.
