A well-preserved internal door

This doorway gave access to the central court of the palace of Zimri-Lim and is a good example of just how well preserved this ancient palace is. Beside the door you can make out the plaster that would have once coated the walls. This plaster, in turn, was painted; either in geometric designs or with figutative murals. To the left of the door you can see the depression for a draine-pipe that would have carried water down from the roof. Such luxuries made this palace the wonder of its day and some archaeologists believe it became the blueprint for palaces built as far away as Knossos in Crete.
