View of the excavations at Susa

Susa has been extensively excavated and much of what we know about the early periods of Iran's history and particularily the history of Susa's inhabitants, the Elamites, comes from these excavations. However in the time that has lapsed since the excavations, many of the trenches have lost any form and have begun to erode back into natural formations.
