Darius' Statue from Susa

One of the more recent and sensational finds from Susa has been this torso of a statue of Darius the Great, now in Tehran's Museum of Archaeology. This statue typifies the multi-national character of the Persian Empire as it was made in Egypt and although the costume is purely Persian, the statue base contains Egyptian iconography, including cartouches and the symbol of the Upper and Lower Nile being bound together.
